    Y4 Hotshots Basketball Sheffield Champions

Our Year 4 boys and girls basketball team were crowned the Champions of Sheffield at the Hotshots Tournament on Thursday evening at All Saints Sports Centre. It was a terrific team effort from all of the team with everyone contributing to the success.

After school, the team was very keen to get going and we made our way into the centre of Sheffield on the minibus to the venue. Excitement and nerves were high during the journey, and once we arrived we were able to go through some warm-up practice exercises to get ready.

For each match, the boys played the first half and then the girls played the second half and the score was counted up at the end. The first game was againt Mosborough and it ended 4-4 with Calen and Erin scored the two baskets. The second match against Hunters Bar, we went one better and won 6-4 with Noah, Jasmin and Summer scoring. The third game was against Mosborough again and Erin scored twice to seal a 4-2 victory for the school. In the fourth and final game of the pool stage we lost 8-4 to Hunters Bar with Mya and Courtney scoring. All of those results meant that we won Pool C and we formed a final group with the other two group winners.

In the fifth match of the evening, we were being outplayed by Brookhouse, but strong and determined defending from Harry and Preston ensured that we held them off enough for Calen and Jasmin to score and secure a 4-4 draw. The last match was effectively the final of the competition and we just edged out Netherthorpe 4-2 weith baskets from Jahdel and Jasmin.

It was great to see the progress the children have made with their skills and their teamwork, especially the girls, who drew or won every half they played. This victory means that Lowedges will now represent Sheffield in the South Yorkshire Winter School Games Finals at the English Institute of Sport on Thursday 16th March.

Many thanks to Erin's mum and sister for being great supporters and all of the parents are welcome at the next event in March.
