Sainsbury's 2012 School Games Kicks Off at ExCeL London

Sainsbury's 2012 School Games has kicked off at ExCeL in London! The UK's biggest multi-sport event was opened by Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP in front of 1,600 cheering athletes, coaches, team managers, Athlete Mentors, hundreds of volunteers and sports stars including Tanni Grey-Thompson, Jason Gardener, Darren Campbell and Jonathan Edwards.

On Monday 7 May, competitions took place across nine sports in London venue. Badminton, fencing, gymnastics, judo, table tennis, volleyball and wheelchair basketball took place at the ExCeL, while Rugby sevens was held at Barking Rugby Club, road cycling at Redbridge Cycling centre and Hockey at the Old Loughtonians.

With the competition now well under-way, the atmosphere at the ExCeL is buzzing. As well as the competitions themselves, young people are enjoying the benefits of the Sainsbury's 2012 School Games experience, including trying out new activities in the Sainsbury's Active Kids village, being interviewed and photographed by the Youth Sport Trust’s very own Young Media Team.
