School Games Mark
The School Games Mark is currently available for all School Games registered schools, rewarding them for their performance during the 2015/16 academic year. The window for applications opened on Wednesday 01 June 2016 and will close on Friday 30 September. SGOs will have an additional two weeks following this period to ensure that all pending applications are verified.
To start your application you must login to your dashboard and then click on the 'start application' button on the right-hand side. Click the button below to go to your dashboard and start now.
Alternatively, you can click on the button below to visit out Mark Resources page (login required). Included here are a number of guidance documents for both schools and SGOs, as well as our offline application form and SIRC information document.
This summer we once again invited schools to apply for the School Games Mark Award. This is the fifth year that the scheme has been run and after a record number of schools - well in excess of 8,000 - applied for the award in 2015, we are on track to surpass that number again in 2016. Thank you for your continued commitment to school sport!
You can read the full set of this year's criteria documents by using the button below. More information about the Mark, including why you should apply, can be seen further down the page - or via the resource pages accessible via your dashboard.
Mark - FAQs
What is the School Games Mark?
The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels.
The Mark is a retrospective award which will validate your success over the ongoing academic year. Therefore, it's important to familiarise yourself with the criteria documents made available in January each year.
Why should our school apply?
- OfSTED can use the Mark award as part of their inspection framework
- You can proudly display your collateral at your school
- You can use it as a development tool to aid the PE teacher or Headteacher as your school
- You can add the logo to letterheads and email signatures to show your outstanding commitment to school sport.
How does my school apply?
To apply for the School Games Mark Award you must be a registered school on the School Games website. If you're not already registered, the process is simple and can be done by using the navigation option on the right-hand side of this page.
Registered schools will note that the Mark Award portal will open at the start of the given application dates and will allow them to work their way through a simple application form. This process should take approximately 15-20 minutes.
Your application will then be sent on to your SGO and, in some cases, an external verifcation organisation to ensure the legitimacy of your application. Your SGO will also be responsible for the delivery of your collateral, which will be sent to you later in the year.
In 2016 we introduced downloadable Mark certificates for the first time, allowing schools to access a portion of their collateral as soon as their application has been verified, ready to be printed and displayed proudly at their school.
