Wheelchair Basketball

2017 School Games at Loughborough University

On Friday 1st September 2017 class 2 and 3, excitedly got some news that we were going to watch wheelchair basketball. We were on the bus for about 35 minutes. Because we were early, we got to play on the grass for about 30 minutes. Before we put our bags down we saw two ladies from the Welsh coaching team, one of the ladies was Anna Jackson who competed in the Sydney Paralympics and competed for team GB in 2000. She also gained two Bronze European Championship Medals. Once we were all inside, we waited for a few minutes then got our seats. Because Scotland had only two people supporting them, we cheered for them as well. Wheelchair Basketball has a squad of 10 players with 5 players on the court. The game is played in four quarters, 10 minutes each. There is a 24 second clock, which means a team must shoot at the basket within 24 seconds. The game we watched was England Central vs Scotland and England Central Won. The score for the whole game was for the 1st quarter 22 points for England Central and 8 points for Scotland. 2nd quarter 43 point for England Central and 18 points for Scotland, 3rd quarter 58 points for England Central and 30 points for Scotland. For the final quarter 78 points for England Central and 39 points for Scotland. During half time there was a competition for the loudest school and obviously we won! The prize was a small basketball. After the match we had our photo taken with the Scottish Basketball Team.

The final results were:

1st England North

2nd England Central

3rd Scotland

4th England South

5th Wales

6th Northern Ireland

Then we had our lunch and went back to school.
