Year 5/6 Boys Football Competition
Year 5/6 Boys Football Competition at Asfordby Football Club
On Thursday 4th October, 15 Ab Kettleby students, from year 5 and 6, attended a football competition at the Asfordby Amateurs Ground. I was with the boy’s team, made up of Isaac.H, Leo, Sonny, Will, Jordan, Ethan, Milo and William.B, for most of the day and was extremely impressed with their footballing skills and their ability to work together as a team through all 5 of their matches.
The first match that Ab Kettleby played was against Swallowdale, Will kindly offered to be the substitute for this match, as the games were all 7 a side. Swallowdale scored the first goal of the match, making it 1-0. Half way through the match Sonny scored an equalising goal and the match finished at 1-1, leaving our first match a draw.
The second match that Ab Kettleby played was against St Marys and Leo offered to be the substitute for this match. Both teams played extremely well and had a few shots for the goal. Neither team scored during this match, and the game ended at 0-0, our second draw.
The third match we played was against The Grove, with Ethan offering to be the substitute. Ab Kettleby scored the first goal of the match, a wonderful goal scored by Sonny, making it 1-0 to Ab Kettleby. Unfortunately The Grove scored an equalising goal in the last minute of the game, leaving the score at 1-1 and giving us our third draw.
The fourth match we played was against Bottesford A team and Isaac.H offered to be our substitute. Bottesford got off to a flying start and scored a goal within the first few moments of the match. As the game continued Bottesford scored a second goal making the score 2-0. Will set up a fantastic goal for Sonny, and Sonny scored a goal for Ab Kettleby taking the score to 2-1. Unfortuantely Bottesford scored a third goal towards the end of the match, making the final score 3-1 to Bottesford.
The fifth and final match for us was against Stathern and Milo offered to be our substitute. Stathern scored a goal a few moments after the match started, however fortunately for us this goal was disallowed due to it being a free kick. Unfortunately Stathern were tough competition and despite their best efforts Ab Kettleby were unable to compete with their 4 goals. The final score for the game was 4-0 to Stathern.
We finished the competition with a total of 8 points and finished 5th overall in our group.
The boys played extremely well and were a credit to Ab Kettleby. A big thank you to the organisers of the event, which ran without a hitch and was thoroughly enjoyable.
