Hockey Final 31st January 2020 @ Church Langley School

Ms Jordan, 3 Feb 2020

Our team was totally up for the challenge to win this competition but some students were showing some early signs of nerves in the first game. One of our strikers hit the ball to shoot for goal but unfortunately the shot was hit outside the semi-circle so it was disallowed. If she hadn't panic and dribbled a little bit further the goal would have counted as there was no one to stop her in her tracks. Then we went on the attack again and with a great team effort we got a goal and we had the edge to keep the lead until final whistle went, beating Holy Cross school with great relief. This was the positive start we needed, our next game was against Nazeing who knocked out our other team the previous week but not this team, they played amazing well and beat Nazeing 1-0. Next up was Henry Moore which was a tougher game but we proceeded to show resilience and guts. We scored a goal then they scored then we scored again and it followed on like that until we got a 3rd goal just before the final whistle. Hooray we won every game in our group! There were jumps for joy & a sense of relief but excitement at the same time as we knew we were into the Final!

Hockey Final 31st January 2020 @ Church Langley School

The final was against Church Langley on their home ground! A team that was used to playing on an amazing Astro surface unlike us who play on a tarmac playground and are used to the ball running much faster. Our team adapted well and were showing positive vibes going into the final.  We started impressive well, with one of our strikers scoring a powerful push shot, putting the first goal on the score board within a couple of minutes.  We kept pushing forward but Church Langley managed to pull it back with a well taken goal just before the half time whistle.  We had a team talk at half time & we made a switch  of substitution. Together our team supported each other and displayed a fantastic team effort with everyone putting in 110%.   We went out with the intent to score more goals and keep pressing forward which worked as our stiker got a beautiful flick shot and scored into the right corner of the net. Church Langley were not giving up though and they put the foot on the pedal. To our disbelief they scored just before the final whistle leaving the scores on the board level with 2-2. Together it was decided that we would share the cup as there was no time for extra time & there was no way we could do penalties without proper goalkeeping equipment! It was a fitting end to a very exciting competition.  We are hoping to reward our fantastic Cooks Spinney Hockey team with a trip to a trampoline park or something similar to acknowledged there amazing achievements!
