Football League: Edge Hill v Eton Park & Horninglow – 14th January 2019
Football League: Edge Hill v Eton Park & Horninglow – 14th January 2019 The school football teams resumed their league fixtures tonight when they faced Eton Park Junior and Horninglow Primary on the astro at Robert Sutton.
Horninglow 1-5 Edge Hill Sixes (Jack, Charlie, Max B x2, Harrison)
Jack was first on the scoresheet after his well-placed free kick beat the goalie high in the net. Soon after, Charlie nodded in the second from a yard out. Horninglow broke from defence to score a fine individual goal to make the score 2-1 to Edge Hill. Max B continued his good form in front of goal to net twice in quick succession, bringing his tally to 9 goals in his last three games for the school. Harrison wrapped things up with a rare headed goal to make the final score 5-1 to the Sixes! The team played well and got the ball forward at every opportunity. Regan and Leo both had half chances at scoring, but a special mention should go to Omarion, who was calm in defence and repeatedly side-stepped around the opposition to distribute the ball to the players in front of him. Also, Harrison was everywhere on the pitch, often getting back to help out when Horninglow broke through. Well done team!
Eton Park 0-1 Edge Hill Fives (Cole)
The Fives faced a strong Y6 side from Eton Park. At half-time, the scoreline remained 0-0 but in the second period Cole made the most of his chances to put the team in front with a calm finish. The Eton Park team is probably the strongest team we have faced this year, so well done to the Fives for managing to come out on top in this match!
Eton Park 4-1 Edge Hill Sixes
The Sixes were caught out several times in the first half but rallied in the second half to match Eton Park. They did manage to get one back but unfortunately left themselves too much to do.
Horninglow 0-5 Edge Hill Fives (o.g., Cole, Charlie P, Max T, Zack)
Tyrun’s cross from the byline opened the scoring when it went in off a Horninglow defender. Cole made the score 2-0, then Charlie P made the most of his advanced position to tap in the team’s third goal. The team’s fourth goal was the best of the evening after a quick break from defence down the left wing. Max T slotted it away to polish off a stylish move which went from one end of the pitch to the other. The final goal came from Zack who had moments earlier dragged a shot wide of the far post. However, he made sure of his second opportunity by placing it high to the goalie’s right.
Edge Hill Fives (Cole) 1-1 Edge Hill Sixes (Harrison)
Back in October, a lunchtime friendly between the two Edge Hill teams ended in a 0-0 draw. This league match also ended as a draw with both goals coming from free kicks. Harrison put his away early in the match, with Cole getting the equaliser for the Fives late in the second half. It was hard fought but looked to be a fair result in the end.
A huge Well Done to both teams for tonight's performances!
