The competition consisted of four groups of 8 with the winners and runners- up of each group receiving a trophy (1st place) and a certificate (2nd place).

WINNERS! Derby County Ladies FC Girls’ Y5/6 Football Festival

Edge Hill 3 - 0 St John's Ripley. Within the first minute, we found ourselves 1-0 up after some great closing down from Lily resulted in the ball finding its way to Mia W who smashed the ball into the net. The second and Mia's second quickly followed after the ball bounced towards Mia W who then hit a first time left-footed volley into the corner. The game was put to bed when Marnie ran forward from right back, cut inside and rocketed a shot past the keeper.

Edge Hill 8 - 0 Hartshorne. In the girls' second game, they were rewarded for their constant pressure and work rate. Mia F intercepted a ball after some great work which resulted in the ball falling to Mia W who shot and hit the post with the ball being passed into the net by Chloe. The second goal was a superb finish by Lily after some brilliant defending from Fearne who played the ball forwards to Lily to score. Marnie also grabbed a brace with two cool finishes from defence. Millie W (to her own surprise) scored 3 vital goals in the game in quick succession to make it 7-0. The game was finished off by Mia W who slotted home another impressive finish.

Edge Hill 2 - 0 Red Hill Primary. The 3rd game was definitely the toughest with the opponents having 2/3 very good players. However, our girls showed no fear and attacked from the off continuing their high levels of work rate. Chloe ran down the line and whipped a ball in the box with Mia W firing home the rebound to put the girls 1-0 up. Paris then made a few important saves to keep the girls in the lead before Chloe rifled home the second goal from the edge of the area. After some great defending by all of the girls, the final whistle blew.

Edge Hill 1 - 0 Denby Free. This was the girls’ closest game as they competed in a very tight game with lots of chances. Unfortunately, the girls could not put it in the net with Mia F and Mia W having clear chances saved and cleared off the line. With 2 minutes to go, Fearne intercepted again on the half-way and passed the ball forward for Millie to stab the ball home to win the game!

Edge Hill 2 - 0 Etwall. The girls’ 5th game was against a well organised Etwall team who had defended well in their previous games. It wasn’t until the last few minutes when Chloe scored 2 very good goals after some excellent work by the midfield to create the chances.

Edge Hill 2 - 0 Wirksworth. The girls faced a good footballing side in their penultimate game that were unbeaten at the time. The girls started nervously with Paris stopping a few quick shots towards her near post. Minutes later, Lily finished off a good passing move to make it 1-0. Mia W finished the game off with a calm finish towards the end of the game.

Edge Hill 2 - 0 Duffield Meadows. In their final game, the girls knew that a win would win them the trophy. They were all full of nerves before the game but did not show this on the pitch. Mia W and Marnie scored a goal each to win the game and secure the league title.

An outstanding achievement to play 7 games and win them all without conceding a single goal which was all fully deserved. Massive congratulations to the girls –

Paris, Fearne, Marnie, Mia F, Millie, Chloe, Lily and Mia
