Year 5 / 6 girls football

Mrs Campbell, 18 Oct 2018

A team of nine Year 5/6 girls represented the school at a football tournament on Friday at the Len Forge Centre.

This was set up as a carousel of matches - each played for a block of 10 minutes one way. Our first game against Prince Avenue resulted in 0-0; following that we won every single match! (Barons Court: 4-0, Richmond: 2-0, Darlinghurst: 2-0, Leigh North Street: 3-0, Friars: 2-0, Hamstel: 1-0 and Our Lady of Lourdes: 2-1).

The girls displayed excellent sportsmanship and worked so effectively as a team, guiding and supporting regardless of what position they were playing. I was incredibly proud of the girls - we all had an amazing day and came back feeling victorious!

Kamilee (Y5): Today was joyful! I mostly played in goal and sometimes defence; I tried really hard and saved every shot.  I think all the girls played really well.

Abby A (Y5): Today was really fun and everyone did well.I played all over the pitch however I didn’t go in goal which is absolutely fine. The rest of the girls that I went with were really kind and supportive and I really enjoyed just playing football. Today was awesome and I’d love t do it again!

Dulcie (Y5): I think the day was fantastic and I had an amazing time representing the school.

Olivia P (Y6): Representing the school made me feel proud inside. The formations were brilliant and we all took turns in different positions; I am normally a midfielder but it was good to have a try at something new. We drew 0-0 the first match and then we played excellently-we didn’t lose a game and were playing with pride!

Ellie K (Y6): I enjoyed the football tournament because it was fun and fair. If the matches had been a bit longer, it would have been even more fun. It is a good game for girls to enjoy and this tournament gave us that opportunity. Despite not scoring any goals, we worked really well together and beat all of the other teams.

Rose D (Y6): I really enjoyed the girls’ football tournament because we worked hard together and had a chance to play a sport we like.I would absolutely love to do it again. Girls should always have a chance to do what they want to do and football is for both genders. I did manage to score a lot of goals but everyone did amazingly well.
