Girls Futsal Heats

On Thursday 30th November 2017 we took two teams to the Tameside Girls Football tournament ran by the Manchester FA at Tameside College.

Futsal, which is a 5 a side version of normal football played with a heavier ball to encourage passing, first came to the UK from Brazil. And I’m sure Neymar and others would have been impressed by some of the football on offer last Thursday.

Team 1 had their first game against

Gee Cross Holy Trinity and despite having lots of possesion and chances went 1-0 down to a break away goal. The girls kept trying to push forward and score the goal they needed to equalise but it didn’t seem to be coming until with 30 seconds of the game remaining we got our precious equaliser to finish 1-1.

Team 2 had their first game aginst Holden Clough and came flying out of the blocks with a fantastic goal from LN giving us a 1-0 win complete with some good passing and defending from the rest of the team.

In the second game the two Greenside teams played against each other in what was an important game. Team 1, who had clearly warmed up from their first game and DW was Fantastic scoring 4 and CL adding another one as they ran out 5-0 winners against the other

team who battled well throughout and made some brilliant tackles.

Greenside team 1 went on from this knowing that to go through they had to win their last game against Holden Clough. Luckily the girl were playing some fantastic stuff now and Daisy once again scored 5 brilliant goals. It didn’t stop their however and more were added by SA, CL and FS.

This meant if that team 2 could get at least a draw against Gee Cross then Team 1 would make it through to the finals. However they never looked like getting a draw… because they played brilliantly throughout and won 3-0 in a fantastic victory with two goals from EB and one from RW.

This meant that team 1 went through to the Tameside Finals and Team 2 finished second in the group. An excellent performance by both teams.

Player of the match was EB, who tried hard and tackled well in the first two games before scoring 2 in the last game. An excellent performance.
