Girls Monthly Football League

On Friday 20th April we were treated to an excellent sunny day, perfect for some excellent girls football down at Curzon Ashton for the girls monthly league.

Team 1 played their first game against Airlees and got off to a fantastic start when Daisy scored after only a few seconds. However more goals were tricky to come by despite Diasy having two great chances and Olivia hitting the post. Airlees came back into the game and we needed some good defence from Megan and Taliah to ensure we held on to win 1-0.

In the second game we had a top of the table clash against Oasis Broadoak who have been improving and playing some good football. In a high quality game there were great chances for both teams with Freya playing some great passing football. Unfortunately Oasis Broadoak scored two quick goals to be 2-0 up. We didn’t have much time but managed to get back one goal through Daisy. We pushed for an equaliser but couldn’t get one in time and the game finished 2-1.

The third game was slightly frustrating as we pushed hard to to score a goal but couldn’t quite break down Moorside’s defences and had to settle for a draw.

Team 2 started with a game against Denton West End, and straight away the girls showed great defence, Scarlet and Ruby J impressing with their skills and Darcey making a host of great tackles. We also had Megan who was solid in net and did some excellent kicking. We had chances ourselves too through Ruby W and Sofia’s excellent movement and well deserved a 0-0 draw.

In the second game against St John Fisher Greenside once again showed how good they have become at defending and working as a team.

They worked very hard to keep out St John Fisher who a are a very good team and nearly scored again securing another point in a great 0-0 encounter.

In the last game it was an all Greenside game, with both teams showing their excellent footballing skills, and Sophie showed some excellent turns early in the game. Daisy broke the deadlock with a fantastic goal which flew into the top corner.

The rest of the game was very close with team 2 defending well onced again and going close to scoring through Ruby and Sofia, who forced Lexie to make a great save. It finished 2-0 thanks to another good goal scored by Olivia who was great throughout.

The player of the match was Olivia for good defence but also two superb shots, one of which scored a goal.
