Hockey Festival

Mr Ellis, 19 Nov 2018

We took many children who'd never played competitive hockey before to a festival at Rayner Stephen's High School

Wednesday 7th November would see the rain begin to fall at about 3pm, which is nothing unusual for a hockey competition. You can always guarantee the cold and the rain for any hockey competition in November. This however did not stop the children from wanting to head across to Rayner Stephens to participate in the hockey festival. One thing that was getting in our way though was the traffic, with the journey there taking us nearly 50 minutes. Luckily for us, by the time we arrived, the rain had almost stopped.

We got ourselves ready for our first round of matches, with all three teams participating against other schools at the same time, so there was no chance for us to watch each other play. This did not matter though as all children were thoroughly enjoying playing against other schools, with some children playing hockey against another school for the first time.

All three teams ended up with a mixture of results at the end of the night with all three teams improving with each game that they played in.

On the night, as well as some great hockey being played, there was also great teamwork from all children and great respect shown towards other schools. The six School Games Values 􀈂 Passion, Self-Belief, Respect, Honesty, Determination and Teamwork 􀈂 were on show from all schools (adults and children) throughout the whole of the festival.

At the end of the festival, it was evident that all children had thoroughly enjoyed representing school and playing in the hockey festival, with some children saying how much they wanted to play again.

It was great to see each and every child enjoying playing hockey.

This week will see the hockey competition for year 5 and 6. Good luck if you have been selected.

Player of the match for the hockey festival goes to OS for some excellent attacking and dribbling of the ball.
