Netball Festival
We attended a developmental Netball festival at Fairfield High School
On Thursday 19th April, when the sun was finally shining, a selection of children from years 4, 5 and 6 went over to Great Academy Ashton to participate in a netball festival.
Upon arrival, the children were put into teams to participate in some relay races just to get warmed up, although the sun was doing a pretty good job of keeping everyone warm (not that anybody was complaining).
After the races, the children were told which courts they would be on. The games the children all played in were just friendly games with no scores being kept as the event was an opportunity for all children there to have a chance to play netball with no competitive element.
Netball is definitely one of the more difficult games to play with a lot of rules involved. In addition to this, there are certain areas where each player can go and as there is a rotation system, meaning players swap positions after each half, then it can get very confusing at times. Many a time during the event, a child would look at where they were stood on the court, look at the position on their playing bib and realise that they were in the wrong place on the court.
Netball is such a fast sport and it is great to see children participating in this sport. Miss Smith’s netball club on a Wednesday is a
popular club but there is always room for more if children want to attend. After England being crowned Commonwealth champions in the netball this year, could we have any future netball champions in our school?
Well done to all who participated in the event. The netball School Games competition is tonight (Friday 27th April) so good luck to anyone attending the event. We look forward to hearing the match report next week.
