School Games Basketball Heats

Miss Stonehewer, 28 Feb 2018

We took 3 teams of 8 to the Tameside School Games Basketball heat at Droylsden Academy.

On Friday 9th February Greenside took an amazing 3 teams to the basketball heats at Droylsden Academy, where 12 girls and 12 boys competed to try to make it to the final on Wednesday.

Team 2 were in a group with Moorside, Greswell and Dowson and began really well in their first game, passing the ball really well and making some brilliant movements. Infact after some superb dribbling and control by KE and EJ amongst others they began to dominate the game but they just couldn't put the ball in the hoop and were punished for this with a late basket to make sure they won 1-0. In the next game Greenside scored a great goal but on this occasion the opposition were very strong and despite some great defending by OC made the most of the three minutes to win 3-1. In the last game Greenside once again played well and were showing great dribbling skills, earning themselves a draw to finish.

Team 1 took on team 3 in their first game and it was very close for the first few minutes of the game, with both sides having good chances including MN and JI having playing some great defensive play. However Team 1 did the main thing all teams must do to win, and started scoring goals with JC and HH scoring some excellent shots, which was helped by some good positional play by IM and SA. Team 1 went on to play Greswell in their second match in a very close game in which both sides had chances, although Greswell were on top in the game and we needed defence from MS and JC to be strong. Luckily with the clock ticking down JSproduced a fantastic shot right before the whistle to win the game for Team 1.

They went into their third game against St Joseph's and both teams played well throughout creating chances to score, which St Josephs managed first before Greenside 1 scored an equaliser to ensure they finished second in the group.

As for team 3 they continued to play fantastically in their second game, beating St Joseph's with more excellent baskets, from HH and RC who scored the basket of the day as he dribbled all the way down the pitch before planting the ball one handed into the basket. RC continued his great form in the last game against Greswell, scoring another fantastic shot along with AR who scored another basket. SK and SA also passed really well and kept possession.
