Sportshall Athletics Heats

Miss Stonehewer, 28 Feb 2018

It was time for one of the toughest School Games events of the year, the Sportshall Athletics heats.

It was time for one of the most hotly contested School Games events of the year, the Sportshall athletics in which 25 schools from across Tameside battle it out for just 5 places in the final.

We arrived with 18 children, 9 boys and 9 girls who as well as practising in After School Clubs had also been practising during Friday afternoon sessions with Mr Ellis on getting the correct technique for running, jumping and thowing.

First up were the field events where all of our children took part in two different events. CL was very impressive with some super speed bouncing and HH did much better than he thought he would with some great basketball throwing. One of our best performances was by IM who impressed everyone watching with his mammoth javelin thowing. HF was very good with her jumping scoring some big distances. LMO also impressed with her excellent performances in her field events.

After that we moved on to the track events where we started in the obstacle race and the over under race where JS, SK and MS worked hard to ensure we had some great finishes. Then we went onto to the different relay races in which we had a run of third and second place finishes which was helped by some excellent baton changing and quick turns on the block. Our best performers in this were KE and EJ who raced to a storming victory in the 2 lap relay and the paraluff joining KC and CL who finished 3rd place in their.

Overall everyone worked hard and we waited for the result where we finished a very good 3rd place, just missing out on the final to a fantastic Greswell team.

Player of the match was KC for excellent perfromanes in track and field
