Helme Boys Football team get off to a winning start to the season!

Mrs Hutson, 19 Sep 2017

This was the first fixture of the new season; we have quite a settled and experienced team who have played together for the past couple of seasons so expectations were high. Charlie was the only newcomer to the team and he settled in marvellously. The boys played superbly on a tricky pitch with ankle high grass. Everyone played their part in two fine team performances.

Charlie kept two clean sheets; Bailey had a short stint in goal and was tough in defence. Owen played a true captains role in centre of defence, organising the team and making several crucial tackles. Daniel was strong in defence but was unfortunately injured making a brave interception in our box. Baden was a mini warrior, showing determination by the bucket load. Our midfield comprised Tom and Elijah both of which are skilful players. Tom was involved in most of the forward play especially in the first game. He made the 1st goal for Zach and scored 2 of his own and could have had more! Elijah got better and better as the games went on, making surging runs down the wing and scored a superb solo effort in the 2nd game to ensure we got all the points. Zach played his usual solo striker role, terrorising the opposition’s defence with his lightening pace and was rewarded by scoring our opening goal.

Results:

Dalton 0 v Helme 3 (Zach 1, Tom 2)

Moorlands B 0 v Helme 1 (Elijah)

Brockholes 0 v Helme 2 (Couldn’t make the fixture so awarded 2-0 win)

What a fantastic start to the season, well done boys. We may be a small school but we have a mighty spirit!

Thanks to Mr Smith and Mr Barker for all your help with the coaching and as always to our supporters; we couldn’t do it without you!
