Coaching clinic & Sheffield Hatters WBBL game

Sun 1 Dec 2019, All Saints Sports Centre (Goals). Coaching from the Sheffield Hatters senior players led by Coach Vanessa Ellis (who is one of a very few elite status coaches in the country) and then the opportunity to watch the Sheffield Hatters vs Essex Rebels WBBL match.

On the Sunday 1st December approximately 15 HBJ pupils came to All Saints sports hall for a basketball training session with the Sheffield Hatters. The training session was an hour long and after we got to watch the Hatters play WBBL match against the Essex Rebels. 

Before the match everyone got into a group with one of the players from the Hatters. We worked on passing, dribbling and shooting. We then got into teams of three and played mini matches against each other. 

After a small break the match started.  At first the Hatters got the ball but they were intercepted quite a lot. At half time the score was  41-25 to the Hatters and they did a children’s shoot out (shown below) and the winner got a box of Quality Streets. 

The second half of the match was very tough. It was a very close score and the Rebels kept on getting the ball. Although it was hard, the Hatters never gave up and managed to keep the lead for the whole match. In the last quarter the scores were very close and the match finished 68-58 to the Hatters. At the end there was a raffle game. Everyone who wanted to enter had to pay £1 and the winner got a box of shortbread. The winner was actually a pupil in our school! Training with the Hatters was a brilliant experience and we would love the opportunity to do it again.
