Tuesday 11th February at Ponds Forge

Futsal Finals

On Tuesday the 11th February 2020, the Year 5 and Year 6 boys played in a Futsal tournament at Ponds Forge.

As one of five teams, we had four games against different schools which lasted 10 minutes each. The games were all 5-a-side with Futsal rules meaning the games were played at a quicker pace than you generally would have in Football games.

Futsal rules:

· Games of 10 minutes.

· Players to be substituted at permitted point on the side-line.

· Once goalkeepers have cleared the ball by throwing it into play, they cannot touch the ball again until it has gone into the oppositions half or it has been touched by an opponent.

· No slide tackles-A free kick will be given to the opposition.

· No back passes to be picked up by goal-keepers.

· No throw-ins from the side-line-balls are placed on the floor and kicked in.

· For throw ins and corners, balls must be placed on or behind the line and remain still.

· No offsides.

· Unlimited substitutions.

We lost the first match 2-1 with Arbourthorne scoring in the last minute. Then, we had to wait 20 minutes before playing again so we had a lot of time before are next match to talk about what we need to work on. Eventually, it was time for are next match and in that game we won 2-0 against Woodseats Primary. This built everyone’s confidence going into the next match. The next match was against Shooters Grove. We started the match off brilliantly going 1-0 up within the first two minutes, but near the end we started panicking because of nerves and not playing as well as we had done. Luckily, we managed to hold on for the win. Going into the last match against Beck Primary, we had to win to go level on points with Arbourthorne School at the top of the group. It was a very tight game with a lot of great football played but after a silly foul was given away, Beck capitalised by scoring directly from the free kick (which went in off the post). We pushed for an equaliser but time was against us.

We gave it our best efforts but unfortunately, as we didn’t top the group we couldn’t go through to the regional finals where we would have represented Sheffield and played in Sunderland. Even with the loss to get as far as we did with mainly a Year 5 team was brilliant and we were happy with how we played in the end.

Congratulations to Arbourthorne Primary School in the next round & good luck.
