Key Steps Gymnastics Competition 17th January

On Friday the 17th of January, 23 pupils from Hunters Bar Juniors went to Ponds Forge to compete in the Sheffield Schools Gymnastics Competition. We competed in the morning slot and everyone had to perform a floor routine and complete two vaults in front of the judges. 

There were four different categories: Y3/4 Foundation, Y3/4 Advanced, Y5/6 Foundation and Y5/6 Advanced. The top 2 teams in each category would qualify to represent Sheffield at the South Yorkshire School Games Finals that take place on 20th March at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield. 

Everyone tried their best which is all Mr Adebola asked for and at the end of the day, we all came back with smiles across our faces. We had been training for about 5 weeks on Mondays with Mr Adebola and on Fridays with the help of Emily and Derek from DE sportz, we learnt and perfected our routines.

At the competition, there were many other schools, and in total 85 teams took part in the competition just in the morning! Making the event one of the biggest yet! 

Our Y3/4 Foundation team came 11th out of 26 with a score of 229.6 (the winners got 236.1) a brilliant effort with many of the Y3 group competing for the first time.  Y5/6 Foundation came 13th out of 25 with a score of 217.4 and the Y5/6 Advanced had 3 groups coming 8th, 13th and 14th respectively out of 23 teams.

Unfortunately we didn't make the top 2 teams in any of our categories however we really enjoyed the day and the experience.
