Friday 6th December, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Training ground.

SWFC Multi-Sports event

On Friday 6th December, Mr Adebola, Mrs Sylvester, Mr Fairweather, and Mrs Mcgregor took us and 17 other children from years 3-6 to Sheffield Wednesday Football Club's Training Ground. We travelled on a mini-bus there and back. Some children went with Mr Fairweather and Mr Adebola in Mr Adebola's (nice but not fancy) car.

We had the chance to try lots of different sports:

  • Football skills
  • Tri Golf
  • Archery
  • Fencing
  • Cricket
  • Goal Ball

There wasn't any real competition with the different activities. It was all about us being able to try as many different ones as possible.

Eleanor

I found the fencing really fun. I really liked the swords and I was able to bring my experience of using foam plastic swords at home (My mum has some) into the activity. I went to try the football but it was very busy and the ball hit me unexpectedly so I wasn’t the biggest fan of that. I found the golf ok, it wasn’t as good as the fencing but I did enjoy it. I liked the fact that we used swords in the fencing so it allowed me to use my imagination a bit more than in the golfing. Don’t worry I didn’t pretend I was a pirate fencing is more civilised than swinging a sword like a swashbuckler and walking the plank. I liked the fact that the building looked like an origami igloo and I thought the music playing was a really nice thing for us to enjoy.

Isobella

I liked the archery task because it had a board with points on it. I was able to use my maths skills (thanks Mr Goodhand) to add my points together to find out my total score. I also enjoyed the fencing because it was really fun. Fencing was a new task that I had never done before so I had to learn everything but the instructor helped us and told us what to do with the fencing swords. I didn’t like the football as it was too crowded so it was nice that we could wander away from it to go and do other tasks such as golf, fencing, goal-ball or cricket. The ground felt funny (as it was Astroturf) and we got bits in our shoes, I had to empty my shoes when we were there!

If we had the chance we both agree that it is something that we would love to do again, and we'd like to say thank you to the staff for helping to make the trip enjoyable and safe.
