Saturday 7th March-Abbeydale Park Sports Club Badminton Hall.

Y5 Badminton tournament

On Saturday 7th March, 10 pupils from Hunter’s Bar Junior School attended a Y5 Badminton tournament at Abbeydale Park Sports Club Badminton Hall.

In the boys tournament George, Gino, Aidan, Rory, Vincent, Will and Malaki attended from Year 5. Samiksh came and competed even though he is in Year 4. In the girls tournament HBJ was represented by Ameera and Zikra in Year 5.

The schedule for the day was the boys singles & doubles tournament which  started at 1.15pm and the girls singles & doubles was supposed to start at 3.45pm but due to there being nearly 50 boys taking part this started at 4.00pm.

Aidan made it through to the semi-finals in both singles and doubles, yet the most memorable one for him was the doubles with his partner Vincent, who was unfortunate not to make it through to the knockouts in the singles.

There was a lot of bravery but the one person who stood out was Samiksh who is only in Y4 yet was playing pupils in the year above and proving himself to be an amazing badminton player even with his injury on the day.

Malachi, the J9 sports councillor,  played very well and lost out to a South Yorkshire player. Will proved himself a lethal force in both singles and doubles yet he just missed out on the knockouts in both.

Rory was the most successful boy on the day coming runner up in the singles earning his first Badminton trophy in his very first Badminton Competition!

For the girls neither Ameera nor Zikra made it to the knock out stages, but both enjoyed the games they played and had lots of fun. It was the first time the girls have played in a Badminton tournament, so they developed a lot over the course of the afternoon, cheered on by Mr Adebola and Ameera’s mum.

There were some memorable moments and games but the best part about it was the Hunter’s Bar team spirit, with everyone cheering each other on to do their best.
