Intra-school Dodgeball Y3 – Cross the River (01/02/19)

Mr Neaves, 1 Feb 2019

Our dance teacher didn’t make it in today because of the snow, so we used the opportunity to play an intra-house sports competition – and try out our brand new dodgeballs!

Intra-school Dodgeball Y3 – Cross the River (01/02/19)

Year 3 took advantage of a snow-induced indoor PE slot by trialling a new version of Dodgeball called 'Cross The River'. Using new soft balls the school recently purchased, the pupils were tasked with crossing from one side of the hall to the other, evading the balls which were thrown by other pupils from the sides. There were mats marked out as 'safety zones' along the way. Pupils rotated between being runners, defenders and 'spotters', who were tasked with calling out who had been hit. During the lesson, pupils were encouraged to spot when was the best time to run, as well as decide on the least dangerous path.

"It was very different to normal dodgeball, but good fun" said Wiluf. "I liked it because it was a new skill - I'd played dodgeball before at Beavers but never like this" added Sam. Not everyone found the balls soft enough to be thrown - "even though the balls were light, that made them quick which did hurt a bit when they hit you" - but the class really enjoyed this new variation on a game they were familiar with.
