Kwik Cricket – Bognor Cricket Club (24/06/19)

Mr Neaves, 25 Jun 2019

Only seven teams (out of the anticipated 10) came out at Bognor Cricket Club for the Kwik Cricket tournament. As rain threatened to end play, we stepped out for the first of three matches.

Kwik Cricket – Bognor Cricket Club (24/06/19)

Barnham were our first opponents, and they got a six off the second ball and started to trouble our fielders. Jake caught one that he had just bowled, and Cody took a set of stumps as our confidence grew. Jake hit two sixes in quick succession when we were batting, but it wasn’t enough to beat them.

It was Edward Bryant up next. They looked very serious in their cricket whites, and it took us longer to settle in to our game than the first match. We conceded a few sixes and bowled lots of “wides”. We lost this game too.

Our final match in our pool was against Rose Green’s 2nd team. We opened the batting, with Ben hitting an early six and a rapid growth in confidence as he played on. We did not, however, make the most of this, and failed to rack up many runs. Our bowling wasn’t particularly strong in this game either.

To end our cricketing day, we had a friendly game against Southway, which was a lot more evenly matched, and we won this game.

At the end of the day, the children had had fun, had learned how to play this version of cricket and our younger players are keen to come and play again next year!
