UKS2 Athletics Competition

Mr Neaves, 7 Jul 2018

Our Ys 5 and 6 competed against each other across a range of distances on the running track today.

UKS2 Athletics Competition

Having made a change to how we have delivered Sports Day this year, we promised the children and parents a more competitive athletics competition that we would hold within PE lessons – and that we would invite parents of the “winners” to a prize-giving ceremony.

The children could opt in to the following events:

•50 m sprint

•100 m sprint

•600 m run

•60 m skipping

•ball throw

•standing long jump

When it came to the skipping, we had heats for the Y5 girls before a final, but for all the others it was straightforward.

We used iPads to video the races, and in particular crossing the finish line, and these were invaluable for making informed decisions and quashing squabbles instantly!

Points were earned – 3 for winning an event, 2 for second and 1 for third. These were then used for us to ascertain winners in track and field events.

This is to be replicated with our LKS2 classes too .
