Celebrating our Third Gold School Games

Sports department, 4 Dec 2017

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved our THIRD consecutive GOLD School Games Mark Award, 2016/17.

Celebrating our Third Gold School Games

The Gold School Games Mark rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are thrilled to have been recognised for our success. The School’s ‘sports for all’ philosophy, inclusivity and the leadership opportunities we provide for pupils are also acknowledged by this award.

Last year our sporting opportunities in the Prep School ranged from hobbies, such as Tennis, Canoeing and Gymnastics, to inter-school fixtures for our A to E teams in Rugby, Netball, Hockey and Cricket. Pupils also take advantage of extensive further sporting options, including specialist coaching and competitions for Football, Athletics, Badminton, Swimming and Cheerleading.

A selection of recent sporting victories include the U11 Girls’ Hockey team who finished silver medallists at both the County and IAPS Regional Championships and went on to represent the School at the IAPS National Finals and the East Region Hockey Finals. Last year we celebrated national triumphs for U13 and U11 Boys’ Hockey (1st and 2nd place respectively, ISA), U13 Netball (Plate quarter finalists, IAPS), U13 7s Rugby (crowned IAPS winners), and athletics (IAPS silver medal for discus). There has been county success for our U12 Cricket, U12 Football and U13 Rugby teams who were all crowned county champions.  For further sporting victories, view the Academic Summary: http://www.taverhamhall.co.uk/academic-results/

While our Gold Award relates to pupils from Year 3 upwards, we also offer a rich curriculum of sport from Nursery onwards. Yoga and meditation sessions are now firmly embedded for our Nursery children in addition to their normal Dance and PE lessons, mini Hockey, Tag Rugby, Tennis, annual Nursery Sports Day and Dance Show.

Pre-Prep children receive weekly swimming lessons provided by a specialist teacher in the School’s indoor pool. They also receive weekly PE lessons and all take part in the annual Pre-Prep Swimming Gala, Sports Day and Dance Show with further options such as Football, Cricket, Tennis and Ball Games through after school clubs.

With a total of 200+ Prep School children competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of School sport, including all staff, coaches, assistants and officials who make these competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our School has once again been recognized. A special thank you also to all parents who regularly turn up in support of our children and teams.

We look forward to applying once again in 2018!
