Hosting the U13 Indoor Hockey Tournament

Sports Department, 10 Dec 2018

Our U13 annual hockey tournament was a fantastic afternoon of fast-paced hockey. All teams improved throughout the event and goalkeepers and strikers alike wowed us with some fantastic goal-mouth action.

Our girls started strongly against Norwich School but despite dominating play and winning several short corners, we could not find the goal and the game ended 0-0.

Next we faced a very strong Town Close side and although we battled hard, they had an excellent short-corner routine and scored 2 break-away goals to leave us 0-4 down. We picked ourselves back up for our next match against Beeston Hall and this was an end-to-end game with chances for both teams. Tuesday made a couple of great saves and Ruby and Milly stood firm at the back, but that goal still eluded us and it finished 0-0.

We showed real character in our game against Gresham’s who scored early on. Emily once again marked a very strong opponent superbly and every player fought for the ball. Gracie used her pace well and Issy eventually scored our first goal, coolly slotting the ball past the keeper to finish 1-1. Sadly, Ruby had sustained a knock to her finger and was out of action for the remainder of the games but her team mates Alex and Milly stepped up. Lily-Ella and Edith worked hard as we dominated against NHSG, but again we could not find the back of the net… We were great at direct shots at the keeper but using post players and shooting into the corners would have seen us score more goals.

Our final match was against Wisbech and it was a similar story of excellent hockey and commitment from the whole team but no goals were scored. The girls should be very proud of their performances, finishing joint 4th. Well done to the winners Town Close, and runners up Gresham’s.

Thank you to Mr Martin for umpiring, Mr Ling for scoring, our catering team for wonderful refreshments and to the parents for their support from the balcony!

Team: Ruby K, Issy S, Milly HK, Emily H, Edith D, Lily-Ella PH, Alex G, Tuesday P, Gracie C
