Summer Sporting Successes

Sports Department, 8 Oct 2018

From Early Years to Year 8, our pupils have had a super summer for sporting successes. A huge congratulations to the following pupils whose achievements have been brought to our attention:

Summer Sporting Successes

Reuben B (Y4) James A (Y5), JC M (Y5), Reilly B (Y5) and Alice H (Y6) were part of the U9 team who won the John Dewing Norfolk Cricket Alliance Final.

Reilly, JC, Bertie C (Y6) and Charl (Y7) were part of the silver-medal-winning team at the U11 Cecil Amey Norfolk Cricket Alliance Final.

Recent Year 8 leavers Charlie H, Jayden B, Sam H, Archie W were the winners of the U13 Cecil Amey Norfolk Cricket Alliance Final, with Man of the Match awarded to Charlie.

Charles B (Year 4) played on the Horsford CC team in the Norfolk U9s Softball Finals, coming third out of eight teams, and Jack J (Y4) was awarded the U9 Coaches/Manager’s Award at Great Melton Cricket Club.

Grace H-K (Y6) represented Norfolk U13 cricket team and played several successful matches across the country over the summer. Grace is the youngest in the team and will now trial again for U13 rather than U11. In addition she represented her club, Horsford CC,  for their first girls’ season. Grace also attended the Norfolk Netball County and Satellite Screening during the summer and was successful for the year’s 7-9 age group. She been selected, following July trials, for the U11 Norfolk United Academy Squad, and was re-selected for the U12/14 Norfolk tennis team. In the Autumn Term it was announced that Grace has been selected to play netball for Maverick’s Mini Academy.

JC also scored the second most runs for Norfolk County U10s this season and opened the batting in all 10 games played; with Bertie opening the bowling for each game. Reilly and Archie C (Y6) were also part of the Norfolk County U10s.

At the Horsford Youth Presentation Evening the following received end-of-season awards:

U13 Most Improved – Muqtada H (Y8) U13 Player of Season – Charlie H U13 Girls Most Improved – Tabitha A (Y8) U11 Players’ Player Award – JC M U11 Player of the Season – Bertie C U9 Steve Read award for contribution to cricket at the club – Alice H U9 Player’s Player – James A

Elliott H (Y8) played in the MCCF RHS festival against Cleveland, Lincolnshire, Netherlands, Cumbria and Oxfordshire. The U12 team were successful in winning the tournament and Elliott was recognised and awarded a bat for his 56no against Cleveland. Elliott also received an award for Player of the Tour from visiting Essex Belhus Cricket Club at Garboldisham. Both Elliott and his brother Louis were invited to the two-day trial games at Northants Cricket for the EPP (Emerging Players Programme). Both boys performed well and looked strong in the field but won’t be notified of decision until later in the year. Elliott’s football season has had a tremendous start with a goal from outside the penalty area against Southend (position central attacking mid) and a 9 – 1 victory against Millwall. He also stood as a flag bearer for the U21’s England team whilst playing Holland at Carrow Road.

At the Norfolk Cricket Awards, Elliott was selected for Centre of Excellence, alongside Campbell T (Y8). Campbell and Bertie C also got 'capped'.

Year 8 pupils Campbell T, Elliott H and Nathan M were part of the Norfolk U12s who won year’s Minor Counties Cricket Festival (MCCF) at Royal Hospital School, Suffolk.

Arthur C (Y8) went to Leamington Spa to take place in the National Quarter Finals for U15 cricket clubs, representing Horsford. He was three years younger than most players there. Arthur also attended several Norfolk Hockey training camps and has been invited back to the Norfolk Hockey Academy for the second year.

Horse-riding Achievements

Molly M (Early Years Oak Class) and her sister Ellie (a former pupil, now at Langley Senior) were both awarded placings, rosettes and prize money at the prestigious annual horse show Equifest, held at the East of England Showground. The week-long event attracts thousands of competitors and the standard is incredibly high, so this a fantastic achievement for the girls.

Evie B-S  (Year 4) won the British Showjumping National Junior Academy NAF 1* Pony Five Star Final and also secured the bronze medal for Norfolk with her team mates in the Norfolk Academy Mini Team at the British Showjumping National Junior Academy Team Finals.
