Autumn Term Sports Report - Newton Longville Sports Report

Newton Longville C of E Sports Report

Sport Teams

Our school’s sports teams have had a strong start this year, with teams from Year 6, Year 4 and Year 2 all representing the school at different sports festivals in Buckingham; as well as our football squad competing in both league and cup matches across the term.

All the way back in October, the Year 6 netball team took on the first challenge of the year, as they represented the school at the gruelling and fast paced High 5 Netball tournament in Buckingham, earning a respectable 5th place overall.  This was soon followed by our Year 4 Basketball team who earned a well deserved 6th place in December in an equally gruelling competition.

However, not to be outdone in Key Stage 1, the Year 2 multi-skills squad gained a well-earned 3rd place in the multi-skills competition, ending the year on a high.

Football Team

The football squad have also had a positive start to the year, winning their first league match against Overstone, before competition in the MK Dons SET Kids Cup.

Here’s what a few of the boys (Billy, Lewis and Hadley) had to say:

On Friday the 30th November, the school football team went to Woughton On The Green, (MK Dons Dome). We won 1 game of the 4 we played. It was really fun.
The teams we played were strong and confident and we hope to do better next time.

School Clubs

A few new sports club have bounced into school this year, including the amazing Hot Shots Basketball, which has almost 70 children in Key Stage 2 taking part on Wednesday lunchtimes and evenings with Mark, the Hot Shots Basketball wizard.

As well as this, Mrs Ruff, has been working with our Key Stage 1 and 2 dance troupes, helping them create inspirational and amazingly choreographed dances for the up-coming county dance competitions.

The Running Club has also started in the past term, with Year 6, 5 and 4 students building up their endurance, speed and racing skills on Tuesday lunchtimes ahead of the start of the Cross Country season this coming February.

In the New Year, we’ll also be launching a few new Sports Clubs, so stay tuned.

Inter-House Sports Competitions

Finally, our inter-house sports competitions sprung into action this past term, with a whole school football tournament in October, with Blue House coming out as the overall winners in the competition.

The Year 5 and 6’s also had a smaller scale inter-house basketball competition, with Red House winning the festival.

Plans For 2019

Looking forward to 2019, we have many new and exciting inter-house sports competitions lined up for the children, including inter-house Table Tennis competitions, the return of the school Triathlon and Duathlon and inter-house Badminton.

The children will also be looking to beat their personal ‘School Run’ challenge times, which they set last term.

Outside of school, our Year 5/6 basketball squad will be in action at the start of January, along side our dodgeball team, as they represent the school at Buckingham family festivals in January.

Following this, the Cross Country season kicks into action in February, as our Running Team looks towards their first races in Aylesbury.
