Sport Teams

It’s been another busy half term for our sports teams across the school: Year 5 & 6 (A and B teams) represented the school in a basketball festival; two teams from Key Stage 2 were challenged at the county dodgeball competition; Year 2 took park in an indoor athletics event; and our football team took part in another round of league matches. All the teams did fantastically well, showing some excellent sporting skills and team work.

Key Stage 1 Dance Team

However, taking the spotlight this term were the the Year 2 dance squad who, with the help of Mrs Ruff, earned a well deserved 2nd place at the Buckingham Dance competition, for their choreographed dance routine around fairy tales.

The Year 2 dance team will now get the amazing opportunity of representing the school at the County Dance Competitions in the summer term.

Sports Leaders

Stepping away from competition and toward training and development, earlier this half term, ten Year 5 and 6 students were given the opportunity to train as Sports Leaders for the school. Their training involved a whole day of sports leader activities at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, where the children were given support and training tips in how to run sports activities, run competitions, and set up mini-games for other children in P.E. lessons and during lunch and break-times. Their new roles are still developing and evolving but in the coming months, their positive sporting presence across the school will definitely begin to be seen.

Intra-House Competitions

This term also saw the return of the amazing Newton Longville Racket Festival, where the whole school took part in a range of badminton, tennis and table tennis skills and competitions across the day. Earning points within a range of different skills, the students were also awarded for their teamwork and cooperation skills. Red House earned the most team points across the festival, meanwhile Blue House won the Year 5 and 6 Bisi-Badminton tournament.
