Newton Longville School Marathon

Mr Williams, 8 May 2019

Have you ever thought about running a whole Marathon? Well the children of Newton Longville have as they were set the challenge of running a full marathon across only one school day!

Taking inspiration from the London and Milton Keynes Marathons, the children from Newton Longville were challenged with running a full length marathon together, with each student challenged with running a small part of the 26.2 miles (42km) course!

By splitting up the marathon into 210 short 200 metre laps of the field (42 kilometres in total), each child was tasked with carrying a GPS batten around the course as quickly as they could, before handing it to the next runner ahead of their next lap. The day was set to be an enormous challenge!

Guided by our amazing sports leaders, the students managed to run the full marathon distance in under 3 and half hours, with an official time of 03.28.05, an amazing time for any marathoner!

However, it wasn’t just about completing the distance, as the classes were also competing to see who could complete their 30 laps the quickest, as well as demonstrate the greatest level of team work and supporting skills, which would be decided by the sports leaders.

From all the classes, the Year 6s came out as the quickest class (beating the 2nd place Year 4 by less that two minutes), while the Year 1 class was nominated by the sports leaders as being the most supportive class from across the day.

The two classes will now receive a special prize for all their hard work.

Well done everyone on completing this amazing challenge and helping to finish the first ever Newton Longville Marathon.
