2016/2017: a golden year of sport at O.L.I

Based on the PE and sporting provision that as a school we provide, O.L.I received the School Games gold mark for the last academic year. This was the first time that our school has received the gold award, which is the most prestigious mark that a primary school can be accredited with.

The School Games Mark is awarded based on the sports provision that a school provides, both in terms of participation in external events and via intra-school sport. While O.L.I had many successes with inter-school sports events last year- most notably the Year 6 Girls’ football team winning the London Youth Games- we also climbed twelve places in the Kingston Borough participation table. This is a great achievement as it further highlights the enrichment opportunities that we are giving to our pupils.

I would like to thank all staff members who contributed to this success, through their support at many of the sports events. Additionally, many thanks are also deserved to the parents and carers who attended and provided transport to the various sporting venues. Finally, the enthusiasm and application of O.L.I pupils in the inter-school events was amazing to witness; congratulations to all the children who represented our school in such a fantastic way.

Now looking forward to the academic year ahead, we will be aiming to provide even more sporting opportunities for our pupils both in school and through inter-school enrichment events. Roll on sport at O.L.I in 2017-2018!
