KS2 Summer Relays
After weeks of trials, training and preparation it was time for 28 children to take part in the Borough's biggest sports competition: The KS2 Summer Relays!
On Wednesday 19th June 2019, 28 pupils from across Years 3-5, took part in the annual Summer Relay challenge. In this event, children compete in mixed teams of four with each member running an 800m leg of Kingston Grammar School’s playing fields.
The competition is the largest event in the Borough’s annual sporting calendar, with approximately 30 primary schools competing- several like us having more than one team in each race. Following in-school trials and before-school training sessions, the children were eager and excited to take part and build upon the excellent success that was had in last year’s event (two bronze medals).
The squad’s excitement was certainly warranted as they delivered fantastic performances across all three races. During the event the children displayed wonderful qualities such as perseverance, with all team members running to their full potential. When pupils were not racing, they were providing brilliant support to the other O.L.I. teams on the course, showing wonderful team spirit and camaraderie.
See below for the amazing race results of all O.L.I. teams:
Year 3:
Team 1: 1st out of 38 teams- Gold medallists!
Team 2: 12th out of 38 teams
Year 4:
Team 1: 2nd out of 39 teams- Silver medallists!
Team 2: 14th out of 39 teams.
Team 3: 23rd out of 39 teams.
Year 5:
Team 1: 5th out of 36 teams.
Team 2: 19th out of 36 teams.
These are truly outstanding results and further highlights the progress that we are making as a school with our long-distance running. The children should be extremely proud of their endeavour and commitment shown in this event. It was a pleasure to witness the enthusiasm and joy that the children had in participating in the races. I am incredibly proud of the way they performed and acted during the course of the event.
Finally, I would like to thank Mrs Di Mambro and the many parents/carers who supported the children during the morning
