After a postponement due to rain the previous, week it was time for six Year 2 children to take part in a football festival at Goals in New Malden.

Year 2 Football Fun

On Thursday 1st October 2019, six enthusiastic Year 2 children (see team photograph) went to Goals in New Malden to take part in a fun-filled football festival. The festival consists of 20 local primary schools and is the largest KS1 inter-school sports event in the autumn calendar.

Prior to the competition, the team were all very excited and completed warm-up drills as well as listening to the rules and instructions from the event organiser. In total the team played 8 matches. Following each match, the team rotated positions so everyone had the experience to showcase different footballing skills, including goalkeeping duties. Several members of the team scored goals which helped O.L.I. to win matches, in addition to everyone showing improving passing and dribbling skills.

Team manager, Miss Simmonds, noted how impressed she was with the perseverance and teamwork that all team members displayed throughout the afternoon. The team members had a brilliant time which can be seen in what they had to say about the event:

· Johnny: ‘I liked it and think I did well.’

· Edie: ‘I really enjoyed it and liked being a goalkeeper.’

· Phoebe: ‘I enjoyed going on a fun trip.’

· Zachary: ‘I liked it a lot, especially when I scored a goal.’

· Michael M:I enjoyed it as it was a sporty event.’

· Jesse: ‘I thought it was great!’

Congratulations to all team members for their terrific performances. Many thanks to Miss Simmonds for wonderfully leading the team on the day. Also, thanks are much deserved to the parents and carers who provided transport to the venue and for those who supported the team during the afternoon.
