Year 3 Girls' Football Success

On the morning of Thursday 28th June 2018, eight girls from Year 3 took part in their first school football competition. The festival, which took place in the sports grounds of Surbiton High, consisted of sixteen local primary schools (see photo).

In the opening group stage, O.L.I came up against Surbiton Prep, Tolworth and Grand Avenue. Despite the very hot conditions, the girls played with amazing energy and desire to record one win, one draw and one narrow defeat. In the second group stage O.L.I did fantastically recording two wins against Kings Oak and one high-scoring draw against CCNM.

During the course of the morning, the girls certainly developed their skill levels and continued to play with a smile on their face which was lovely to witness. With an overall record of: three wins, two draws and one closely fought loss, the girls should be very proud of their efforts. Read below for quotes from the participating pupils:

· Darcey (Parrots): ‘I rate it 10/10 because it was a great opportunity to compare skills.’

· Naomi (Kingfishers): ‘I liked how we were able to play in different positions.’

· Anastasia (Kingfishers): ‘Everyone was supporting each other and we tried our best.’

· Ella (Parrots): ‘10 out of 10 because we played against lots of different schools.’

· Isabelle (Kingfishers): ‘It will prepare me for future football tournaments.’

· Elizabeth (Kingfishers): It inspired me play football more in the future.’

· Lyla (Parrots): ‘It was great to have our parents cheering on- it made us play better.’

· Bella (Parrots): It was really good because we were able to work as a team.’

Congratulations to: Lyla, Bella, Naomi, Darcey, Ella, Isabelle, Elizabeth and Anastasia for representing the school in a brilliant way. Many thanks to the parents and carers who provided transport to and from the venue. In addition, thank you to those who provided passionate support in all of our matches at the festival.
