Year 3 Tag Rugby Festival

On Tuesday 21st January 2020, eight children from Year 3 took part in a fun tag rugby festival in the sports grounds of Surbiton Prep. The O.L.I. team played six matches against a number of local primary schools which included: Burlington, Coombe Hill, Fern Hill, Latchmere, Tolworth and the hosts Surbiton Prep. The team were excited to get underway and show off the passing, tagging and running skills that they have practised in PE lessons and after-school clubs.

All of the matches were extremely close and decided by a difference of only one or two tries. Also, the matches were very high scoring with O.L.I. showcasing attacking flair scoring at least three tries in all of their matches. This was best demonstrated by a hard fought 8 tries to 7 defeat by Tolworth in the team’s second match. The highlight for O.L.I. was a 3-2 victory against Kingston school Fern Hill. In the final two matches against Coombe Hill and Burlington, O.L.I. registered two entertaining draws-scoring a total of seven tries in the process.

The children enjoyed this experience, which can be shown in what they had to say below:

Nethayia: ‘We worked the best as a team.’

Oisin: ‘Our team did amazing. Great job!

Maku: ‘Our team did a great job. Well done to us.’

Luka: ‘We were all working together as a team.’

Owais: ‘We worked as a team and I improved my catching.’

Daria: ‘I enjoyed playing at this festival.’

Prakateesh: ‘We played really well.’

Miles: ‘No one shouted at each other at all and we showed really good teamwork.’

We would like to congratulate the children on their performances. They made great improvements in attack and defence during the course of the event, showing passion, respect and fair play in the process. Many thanks to the parents and carers for providing transport to the venue. Also, we appreciate those who were able to stay and support the team at the event. Finally, we would like to thank Mr Richards for wonderfully supporting the team at the event.
