Year 4 Girls Football Festival

                                                                                 Year 4 Girls Football Festival

On Tuesday 6th February 2018, seven Year 4 girls took part in a football festival at CCC. Prior to the competition, the team took part in a training session in the grounds of O.L.I. During this session, the girls benefited from taking part in drills focusing on the main footballing skills: passing, dribbling and shooting. Additionally, the team had an opportunity to develop their tactical awareness, which would most certainly come in handy for the festival.

O.L.I’s Year 4 team were competing against six other local primary schools which included: Lovelace, St Matthews, Robin Hood and Grand Avenue. For several of the squad this was the first time that they had taken part in a football competition; however, despite some nerves before commencing, the girls displayed enthusiasm, perseverance and a great team-ethic which was lovely to witness.

The main emphasis of the festival was about having fun, which the team certainly did. From match-to-match the girls had smiles on their faces and really ‘thrived together as a team’. The girls’ skill levels and game understanding certainly improved over the course of the festival. I was particularly impressed with how organised and committed the team were in defence; this was shown by how the team were able to keep clean sheets in two matches. Additionally, O.L.I’s attacking play progressed as highlighted by an increased number of goals that were scored during the festival.

Congratulations to the team (Yasmin, Patty, Zofia, Alma, Olivia, Carmela and Aleesha) on their wonderful performances. I would like to thank the parents and carers who kindly provided transport in taking the team to the venue. Also, many thanks for the support at the festival.
