Read here about the Year 5 Kwik Cricket Championships!
Eight Year 5 children took part in a recent Kwik Cricket event on Wednesday 12th June 2019 in the sports grounds of Kingston Grammar School. Three pupils from Mr Keady’s after-school club and the remainder from impressing in PE lessons, were excited to represent the school. Similarly to the recent Year 6 cricket events, the competition consisted of 24 schools in total with teams placed in groups of three. O.L.I. would Surbiton Girls and Green Lane in the group-stage.
O.L.I. played Green Lane in the first encounter and made a positive start with some early catches to reduce the points total of their opponents. When batting, the O.L.I. team made several good partnerships which resulted in a well-deserved victory. Following a break in play, O.L.I. next played an experienced Surbiton Girls team. The battled through the match, particularly impressing with their energetic fielding and accuracy of bowling. O.L.I won this second group match and guaranteed their place in the knock-out stage of the competition.
Despite losing the quarter-final clash, the team played excellently and should be proud of their effort and endeavour. I would like to congratulate Ben, Joshua D, Raphael, Julian, Maia, Yasmin, Aedan and Andrew on their performances. Throughout the morning’s play, all team members made great strides in improved with batting, bowling and fielding aspects of the game. Also, the team displayed great teamwork and communication skills in all matches. Many thanks to the parents and carers who generously gave their time in providing transport to and from the venue. Also, I would like to thank Mr Kay who enthusiastically led the team at this event.
