Year 6 pupil sprints to success at British Cross Challenge Cross Country

Lily recently took part in the British Cross Challenge Cross Country at Sefton Park, Liverpool. Lily is a member of Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club and runs throughout the year in all sorts of events. She is an extremely dedicated athlete who is always trying to improve on her personal bests.

'It was a bit cold and I felt very nervous as there were 182 runners in the field. I decided to set off fast to try and get in front of everyone as I didn't want to get stuck in the middle or pushed to the back. The horn sounded and I managed to get clear. There were three runners that were there from fell races who had beaten me before , but on this occasion I managed to get in front of them'

Lily's mum proudly said, 'She rocked an incredible 32nd out of 182 of the best u11 athletes in the country, absolutely smashing her Pb! Children come from the whole country to compete on this one once a year.  8:22 for 2k.'

We're all very proud of you at the Breck. Keep on running Lily!
