Active Week
This week we had 4 sporting interschool events.
Wow, what a busy week and thanks to our sports crew for all your fab blogs.
It all started on Tuesday with friendly football matches against Clarborough Primary School. The girls played for only the second time this year and there were 9 making their first ever appearance, which they all did in grand style, representing our school for the first time. Although they lost heavily (8-0 ) they never gave up and showed true resilience. Smiling and enjoying themselves right up to the final whistle. The saying "winning isn't everything "was certainly very true as far as our girls were concerned.
I couldn't be prouder of their team spirit and determination.
On the same night our boys from years 5/6 played too. As a school our aim is to try to get as many of our pupils involved in after school activities as we possibly can. Hence arranging the friendly matches. With this in mind we chose boys who have regularly turned up for training throughout the whole term. Out of the 15 that were picked 11 were playing representative football for the first time. It was a good game and all the boys enjoyed taking part.
Next up was a 6 a side tournament which was organised by a company called Fit2Play. Once again the remit for all schools that took part was that the pupils taking part had been non- active in previous games for school. we saw this as an ideal opportunity for our Boys that were just starting to show an interest in football. 15 of them took part, it was absolutely freezing cold but they didn't complain once. In fact they loved it and are still buzzing and talking about it as I write this blog.
Finally today we took part in a dodge ball festival which was organised by Michala Swales our SGO. We took 12 pupils from year 4 and 6 to this. None of them have been to a inter school event before and they absolutely loved it. The event was run by the sports leaders from Retford Oaks who were brilliant. They had organised 7 different skill based stations and the children rotated around them all spending 10 minutes at each. Then after a quick break the children were all mixed up with children from other schools and they played some games. The whole thing was incredibly well organise.
So by the end of this week 47 children who had previously been non active have now played in inter school sport and experienced inter school competition.
Roll on next week, phew !!!
