British Triathlon Trust Earth to Space challenge

Mrs Paton, 27 Feb 2018

An amazing day, 389 pupils all competing against each other, cycling and running.

British Triathlon Trust Earth to Space challenge

Today we welcomed the British Triathlon Trust Earth to Space team to our school. They set up 30 bikes in our gym and a running circuit outside on our playground. It was cold and snowing but that did not stop us from going ahead with this event. Each year group took it in turns to have a go on the course. They had 45 minute slot each and then that was divided into 2 minute intervals. Two mins run, two mins rest, two mins bike. After 45 minutes the km were counted up on each bike and each lap of the running course.

The whole school mission was could be all cycle and run enough kilometres to travel to space, up to the satellite and back again.

Each year groups mission was to be the best they could be and cycle and run more kilometres than each other.

It was an absolutely amazing day, so many  exhausted, hot, sweaty, happy 😊 smiling faces .

We asked the pupils to come in sports kit for the day and to donate money towards a local foundation.

This is the "Be more Bailey Foundation", set up by Bailey Matthews an incredible local young man who is in year 6 at another local school in Worksop. Check out his website, I promise you that you will be inspired!! Basically after gaining funding for a specially adapted bike so that he could ride and compete in Triathlons Bailey wanted to help other children like himself to do the same.

Anyway we managed to raise £360 towards this charity. Hopefully this can help another disabled child to access sport and join in with everyone else.

Even better we managed to cycle and run over 15,000 km , such a fantastic achievement.

So so proud of all of our pupils,👍🏃🚴
