Line Orienteering
The first time we have tried this form of Orienteering but the kids loved every minute of it.
This was the first time we had entered this type of Orienteering competition. Over the last few years we have been really fortunate to have Robert Parkinson from the Notts Orienteering club giving schools in our area some coaching and general knowledge and know how on Orienteering.
From this we now have a after school club and have used sports funding to pay for an official Orienteering map of our school grounds.
The pupils love the club and are improving their map reading skills . We then started a couch to 5 K club and the combination of the stamina for running and the map reading have started to pay off.
We were invited to take part in this line Orienteering event. So, Jess our Orienteering club leader did some research into what was involved. The children had a practice and were all keen to have a go.
We turned up at Worksop College not sure what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. We decided to take 7 teams , 14 participants. We weren’t sure how the results worked out but Michala our SGO explained that the best 3 times from each school were used and then they added which position each pair were in after all 113 people had run.
Anyway, both Jess and I were really happy and incredibly proud of our pupils as they came back in good times. Overall we were 3rd place out of all the schools that took part, for our first time attending this was an excellent result. Our school hashtag is #TeamWorkMakesTheDreamWork. This was most certainly the case on Thursday. Well done to everyone and thank you to our SGO for organising the whole thing.
