Local schools play at Bradfield Sports College in a tournament

Netballer's finish 3rd in schools tournament

3rd place for Spurcroft at the Primary Schools Mixed Netball tournament

Spurcroft headed to Bradfield Sports College for a mixed netball tournament. For some of the children this would be their first opportuntity to represent the school playing netball. 8 teams were involved and so a round-robin tournament was played with everyone playing everyone and having the experience of playing lots of matches.

The teams at the tournament were : Pangbourne, Whitchurch, Westwood Farm, Bradfield, Theale, Birchcopse, and Stockcross.

Throughout the tournament we improved on our game play with all the children working well as a team. We had an opportunity to move people around in different positions and to see how the team played. The competition was close with many teams having success.

We played Pangbourne and won 2-1 with goals from Ivan and strong defence from William. We faced Whitchurch and lost 1-2 – this match we were unlucky as our shots were not going in. Our 3rd game we played Westwood Farm and the game flowed better with Bo, Lucy and Olivia working hard in defence. We won 4-0 with great goals from Erin and Ivan. Against Bradfield we just lost 2-3 despite excellent centre court play from Eva and Evie. We had a break for lunch and then refreshed we played Theale and another good win 3-0 with Patrick working hard in defence to create chances for Spurcroft. We played Birch Copse and won 2-0 with the team working hard. The final game we faced Stockcross and this was another close game – at half time we were drawing 3-3 after excellent play by everyone. At the last minute Stockcross scored.

The results were announced at the end of the tournament and Spurcroft had finished 3rd. A super tournament with excellent play throughout by all players. All the players received a medal and a trophy for the school to keep.

Mrs Thomspon was extremely pleased with how well the children had played and how well they represented the school: Eva Fielden, Erin Jarvis, William Appleby, Evie Kernoghan, Olivia Titcombe, Ivan Pathirathna, Lucy O’Sullivan, Bo Deas and Patrick Drawl.
