RUNNERS –UP in ESFA finals
Spurcroft girl’s football team qualified through to the ESFA finals as the winners in their league group and were very excited to being playing in the finals.
The other teams were St Gabriel’s, Falkland and St Nics. The girls knew they faced some tough opposition
We started against St Nics and started strong Catherine had an attempt that went wide. Isabella made a good save with the defence working hard to clear the ball. The team battled hard and played some good football. A quick break from Teagan who controlled the ball well but hit the side netting. The game was a draw.
Our next game was against St Gabriels. Spurcoft had some chances with the midfield passing the ball through to the strikers, Gracie miss kicked the ball in front of goal and it went wide. Our defence remained tight and Isabella made a good save to keep the game a draw.
The final game we faced Falkland and we knew that we needed to score 2 goals to win (as St Gabriels had scored a goal against St Nics in their match). A tightly contested match with both teams attacking but neither team scoring. In the end the game finished in a draw.
Congratulations to all the girls who played; working together and improving on their skills and movement throughout the tournament. The final results were in and Spurcroft girls had finished 2nd overall with St Gabriels winning the finals– Mrs Thompson was very pleased with their performance. The girls received medals as winners of their league group. Well done to the team who represented the school: Isabella Oelofse, Tate Billington, Sophie Schofield, Jess Schofield, Catherine Jones, Teagan Kell, Emily Smyth and Jess Argyle. Thank you to Mrs Jones and Mr Oelofse who helped drive and support the girls.
