WINNERS Gold medals for Football Boys’ league group

The boys faced some strong opposition in the 1st group stages of the football league at Park House. The 7 teams would each play one another in a round robin league group. We started strong with all the players focused against Stockcross – an early opportunity from Keiran with a shot put us 1 up. Great play from the attacking players saw Connor score a 2nd goal and we won 2-0. St Finians were our next opponents and the game finished in a draw 0-0 however Spurcroft had chances which didn’t find the back of the net – Kieran shot over the post, Connor’s superb shot rebounded off the cross bar and Archie shot just wide. A strong performance against Parson’s Down saw some superb build up play from the defence through to the attack with Archie passing a through ball to Callum who then crossed it to Keiran to score. A couple of shots from Keiran and Archie went wide. Then good pressure from Archie saw him score. We were awarded a penalty form a hand ball in the box and Archie stepped up to score his 2nd of the game. We had won 3-0 an impressive result and great team work. We played Robert Sandilands and Callum had an early opportunity but his shot went wide. Constant pressure from the team saw us score through a GK kick that Keiran poached and scored to win 1-0. Another win against Cold Ash with 2 goals – a great early through ball from Archie to Callum and he scored. Archie again playing superb and strong work gave him a goal. Our final game we faced Hermitage and Alex was put to the test making a save, however Hermitage scored first. The boy’s heads didn’t go down and they pressed hard to come back and level the game with a goal from Archie to draw 1-1.

The team had played superb and worked really well throughout the games. Our defence by Edward and Teddy was superb which allowed our midfield players Connor, Archie and Freddie to push forward and link well with the strikers Keiran and Callum. Alex in goal despite not having a lot to do remained focused.

The results were in and Spurcroft had won the group with Stockcross finishing 2nd. They go through to the finals on Mon 11th December. We wish them the best of luck.

Mr Shields and Mrs Thompson were delighted for the boys: Archie Goode, Keiran Sprules, Connor Joyce, Alex Davey, Edward Cain, Callum Little, Teddy Mackie and Freddie Richardson.
