WINNERS - ESFA Girls League Group

The girls as overall group WINNERS and were awarded a place in the finals at the girls ESFA 7 a-side football tournament. The girls played in a mini football league tournament against Curridge, Hungerford and Parsons Down hosted by Hungerford. The teams played in a round robin group, with everyone playing each other. The first game we played Curridge and the girls were ready to play. A strong start with Catherine having an attempt on goal and it went wide. Then Teagan scored with our first goal to put us ahead. A super run from Teagan showing good control produced the 2nd goal. At half time we had several missed chances from Jess A and Gracie with the Curridge GK making some superb saves. Isabella had to stay focused as she made a good save and the match finished 2-0 to Spurcroft.

We then faced Hungerford and started with confidence, Teagan chested the ball down from a ball passed through from the defence and scored. Catherine converted a cross in from Teagan to score and put us 2-0 ahead at half-time. The Spurcroft defence worked hard to ensure Hungerford didn’t get past them – Jess A, Tate and Sophie all playing superb. Another chance for Spurcroft with the ball bobbling around in the attack and Gracie connected with the ball and scored. Emily shot wide. Another good win for the girls 3-0.

Our final game was a much closer game against Parsons Down to begin with, both teams were working hard. Catherine and Gracie had shots but the GK saved them. At half time a quick talk to boost the girls and focus them. From kick off Teagan made a good run and scored. With support from mid field Spurcroft players kept control of the ball and passed quicker – another goal from Teagan and we won 2-0.

The results were in and Spurcroft were the winners of the group and will now go through to the finals to be held on Monday 27th November. A big thank you to Mr Collins who helped coach the team and refereed the matches.

The Spurcroft girls had played fantastically and showed great team spirit, enthusiasm and encouragement for each other. Well done – Mrs Thompson was very proud of them. Well done to the team who represented the school: Isabella Oelofse, Sophie Schofield, Tate Billington, Jessica Argyle, Jess Schofield, Emily Smyth, Catherine Jones, Teagan Kell and Gracie Collins.  Thank you to the parents who came to support the girls.
