U11 Football: ESFA Cup - Newcastle Round

Mrs Summersby, 28 Sep 2021

School football is back after 18 months!

After 18 months, school football resumed tonight!

The U11 team travelled to Gosforth Academy to take part in the  ESFA Cup - Newcastle Round. They were in a group of five teams - Gosforth Juniors, West Jesmond, Walkergate and Our Lady and St Anne's.

We played the first game against Our Lady and St Anne's and won 2-0 after 2 great goals. Next, we played West Jesmond, which was such a nail-biter of a game! We went 1-0 up, then West Jesmond scored an equalizer. We battled back and scored another to make it 2-1 but West Jesmond were hungry for another goal and made it  2-2. Both teams were fighting for another goal and West Jesmond managed to sneak one in just before the final whistle, making the final score 2-3 to them.

Not to be downhearted, the team were straight back in with another game against Walkergate, which they won 1-0 before their final game against Gosforth Juniors. Both teams were fighting to win the group and progress to the next round of the cup. There was some excellent football and both teams kept a clean sheet.

Unfortunately for us, we needed the win to go past them in points for group winners. We finished 2nd in the group and were excellent representatives of the school, on a very wet and blustery night!
