Tag Rugby Fixture VS Charborough Road

Thursday 8th March saw pupils from year 5 and 6 travel to Charborough Road to compete in a tag rugby fixture. This was their first fixture of the year and a chance for our team to get some valuable practice in before their Wesport tournament next week at Avonmouth Rugby Club. The games were also an opportunity for the pupils to show and test the skills and plays they have been learning in afterschool club for the last few weeks. We played three 10 minute matches which saw some outstanding running rugby from both sides and some great tries being scored. Our first match ended in a 5-8 win. The team started strongly, linking together really well setting up George who stormed through to score the first try of the match. Our next score was an individual effort, a neat pass saw the ball land in Sid’s hands, he then stepped his way through most of the opposition team and ran the length of the pitch to score.

The second matches saw Charborough finish 6-3 winners. We fielded a slightly different side which allowed a few children to represent the school for the first time in tag rugby. Charborough Road were the first to get on the score board this time. A well worked restart move saw one of their players run a neat line and make his way through our defence to find the try line. St Ursula’s manged to hit back straight away. After a couple of phases, we put ourselves in a stronger position closer to the opposition line. The ball made its way to Preston who ran down the win and scored in the corner. After a few more tries from both side Charborough finished the winners with one more game left to play.

The last match ended in victory, finishing 5-8 to St Ursula’s. This match saw the team really put on a show. We started outstandingly, straight from the restart the we linked together several phases with the ball eventually making its way to Luke who ran through the last couple of defenders to finish a great attack from the team. A knock on at the restart from Charborough saw us in position on the half way line. A quick tap and go from Toby caught the opposition defence of guard, two quick passes and the ball was in the hands of Jack who accelerated at the gain line, making his way through the gap in Charborough Roads defence to then run in and score the final try of the match.  A victory in this match saw St Ursula’s finish overall winner by two games to one.

We done to all pupils who participated in the matches!!!!!!
