Year 5/6 Football League

Monday 26th February saw St Ursula’s travel to St Bede’s for their final round of league fixtures. With a few new faces in the team St Ursula’s made a promising start to their first game against Westbury On Trym. The boys linked together really well and created some fantastic opportunities for themselves in attack however couldn’t quite finish the opportunities they set up. A goal from Westbury saw the game finish 1-0.

Our second game against Little Mead saw us again put ourselves in some fantastic positions on the pitch and this time we were able to score. Some great linking play between Louis and Brad created some space for Matteo who buried the ball in the back of the net. On several occasions, Little Mead tried to get themselves back into the game but could not break our strong defensive partnership of Riley and Sam who held firm throughout all our matches. The game finished with us winning 1-0.

In the third game, we were up against Horfield. Full of confidence from a victory in our last game, St Ursula’s started in the same way they finished the last match. Full of energy the boys broke through the Horfield defence and set themselves up on many occasions but were unable to convert their opportunities.  After four or five attempts the lads finally got what they were looking for. Again, some great linking passes helped the ball to find its way to the feet of George, he stepped up to the mark and from about 15 meters out connected with a great strike which saw the ball fly into the net. However, an almost instant attack from Horfield saw them level the game with a well created goal from a very dangerous attacking play. The game finished 1-1.

The final game saw us up against St Bon’s who were by far the strongest team in the competition. The boys held their own for some time but in the end St Bon’s proved too strong and finished off several of the scoring opportunities they set up. Despite the result the boys can walk away with their heads held high. The team has improved each time we have attended these fixtures and has been an invaluable learning curve for all our student’s that have participated. Well done to all those who have participated in our league games since September!!!!
