 Year 5&6 Football

On Tuesday 13th March, our John Bamford football team competed in mini-league which if they won would take them to the area finals! Both games brought a challenge to a group of footballers who had never played as a team before and going into the first game it showed with a few wayward passes. As the game grew so did their confidence and chemistry, leading them to a 3-0 opening game victory. It all then came down to the final game where we needed a win to guarantee winning the title. As the game began John Bamford where on top and pressing to break the deadlock when against the run of play they were dealt a heavy blow and conceded. Knowing they needed to get back into it they pushed high up the field and inevitably our equalized came, but was there enough time to grab a last ditch winner? Chances came thick and fast but unfortunately the woodwork and some resolute defending meant the match finished 1-1 and we had finished 2nd place only on goal difference. The players gave everything on the pitch and after reflecting on the heartbreak they came away with their head held high and the realisation that we could still qualify as best runner up put a smile on the faces of everyone!
