See how we got on at the ACET Year 6 Football Tournament

ACET Year 6 Football

The sunshine beamed down as some thrilling matches were played out to capture the coveted ACET trophy. There was a seperate boys and girls tournament, where each academy would face each other in a league format, with 3 points awarded for a win, 2 for a draw, and 1 for a defeat. In the girls tournament, only 3 points would seperate the top 4 teams. Listerdale ran out as the overall winners, acrruing 14 points through 4 wins and a 0-0 draw. Their 2-0 victory over Lowedges proved crucuial, as Lowedges won their other 4 matches by 1 goal to nil, meaning they came runners up with 13 points. Grace's strike into the far corner against Temple Normanton was the pick of the goals for Lowedges. Mya and Olivia shared the goals between them in the other victories over Aughton, Springwood and Thurcroft. Their 2nd place finish will give them good belief heading into Monday's ESFA cup competition at Lowedges. It was an even closer affair in the boys tournament, with 3 teams finishing the tournament unbeaten. Listerdale came in 3rd place with 4 draws and a win, giving them a total of 11 points. Similarly to the girls tournament, Lowedges came runners up again, with two wins and three 0-0 draws. They did not concede a single goal during the tournament, keeping 5 clean sheets. Goalkeeper Calen played a huge role in this, springing low to his left to parry away a Listerdale penalty in the dying seconds to keep the score at 0-0. Tyler, Jack and Jahdell all gabbing the goals for Lowedges. Thurcroft also failed to concede a single goal during their fixtures, with two 0-0 stalemates and three 1-0 victories. This was enough to clinch the trophy by 1 point, finishing on 13 points. The spirit of the competition was fantastic, with smiles on faces win, lose or draw, and 3 cheers for the opposition after the final whistle of each game. This really highlighted the school games value of respect. With the carrot of a football shirt on offer for the outstanding player of the tournament judged on both skill and teamwork, there was plenty of self-belief and determination demonstrated too. The ACET PE Teachers will convene to make this tough decision, with so many worthwhile candidates.

Well done to every single player involved and congratulations to Listerdale and Thurcroft for their winning performances. These events encapsulate the power of sport across ACET, and we look forward to the Y5 basketball tournament at Aston Academy in November.
